Why Your 2012 Chevy Avalanche Upper Control Arm Fails on Lifted Trucks
Factory control arms use sealed ball joints that can't be serviced. Once contamination enters, the joint wears until it fails. On lifted Chevy Avalanche vehicles, that failure happens faster because increased suspension travel forces the ball joint past its factory articulation limit. You'll hear clunking from the front driver side 2010 Avalanche control arm, feel steering wander, and eventually face a safety issue.
JBA upper control arms solve this with Max 90 Ball Joints that articulate 90 degrees in all directions. That's 50% more range than factory joints. The ball joint threads into a chromoly steel housing and can be replaced without cutting or pressing. Eight grease ports on the EZ Lube Bushings let you service the entire chevy avalanche upper control arm on the trail. No special tools included, just a standard grease gun.
Heavy-Duty Upper Control Arm Kits Built for 2007-2013 Chevy Models
JBA Gen 4.5 upper control arms fit all 2007-2013 Chevy Avalanche and Chevrolet Avalanche truck platforms. The front upper control arm assembly mounts directly to factory locations, making control arm replacement straightforward with no drilling, no brackets, and no modifications to the lower control arm or lower control components. Each suspension control arm ships with stainless steel hardware, Zerk fittings, and installation instructions.
The control arm frame mounts use 1-inch-diameter EZ Lube Bushings with pressure relief valves. Grease flows through internal channels to lubricate the full bushing surface. This design eliminates the bind and wear you get from sealed rubber bushings on lifted applications. You control maintenance intervals based on your environment, not a factory service schedule.
Max 90 Ball Joint Design for Lifted Suspension Control
The Max 90 Ball Joint is CNC-machined from a single billet of 4140 chromoly steel. The stud diameter is larger than OEM. The taper is longer. The articulation range is 90 degrees, which means the ball joint won't bind when your truck cycles through full droop or compression. This matters on 4-inch and 6-inch lifts where the top of the control arm travels through a wider arc.
Each ball joint threads into the control arm housing with a captured retaining ring. You can replace the ball joint in 20 minutes with hand tools. No press required. No trip to a machine shop. This is the only rebuildable upper control arm on the market with field-replaceable ball joints designed for Chevrolet full-size truck suspension geometry.
What an Upper Control Arm Does on Your Truck
The upper control arm connects your frame to your steering knuckle. It controls camber, caster, and vertical wheel travel. On a 2012 Chevy Avalanche, the front driver side upper control arm and passenger-side arm work together to keep your tires flat on the ground during suspension compression. When you lift the truck, the control arm operates at a steeper angle, which increases stress on the ball joint and bushings.
Factory control arms weren't engineered for this angle. JBA upper control arms were. The longer ball joint stud and increased articulation range restore proper suspension geometry on lifted models. You get better tire contact, more predictable handling, and longer component life.
Rebuildable Design Backed by Lifetime Structural Warranty
JBA covers the structural integrity of every control arm with a lifetime warranty. The frame, ball joint housing, and mounting points are guaranteed against failure for as long as you own the truck. Wear items like bushings and ball joints are serviceable, not disposable. You replace what wears, not the entire assembly.
This is the same control arm design deployed in jungle fleet operations and desert expedition rigs. It's been refined through four generations since 2003. Gen 4.5 is the current spec. Every arm is welded and inspected in the US, then finished in JBA Red powdercoat for corrosion resistance.
