Upper Control Arms for 2016 4Runner
The 2016 Toyota 4Runner shares the 5th generation platform introduced in 2010, and the factory upper control arms limit suspension travel once you add lift kits or larger tires. JBA's Gen 4.5 upper control arms replace the stock front suspension components with the same CNC-machined 4140 chromoly steel construction found in the 2022 Toyota 4Runner upper control arm, featuring Max 90 Ball Joints that articulate to 90 degrees, and EZ Lube Bushings with 8 individual grease ports and pressure relief valves. You get increased usable wheel travel, corrected alignment geometry after a 2- to 3-inch lift, and a design you can rebuild on the trail instead of replacing.
Max 90 Ball Joint Design
Each upper control arm uses a Max 90 Ball Joint CNC-machined from 4140 chromoly steel. The ball joint articulates to 90 degrees in all directions, eliminating the binding that causes premature wear in sealed factory ball joints. You maintain full steering range and suspension droop even with 33-inch tires and front lift kits. The Max 90 design is rebuildable, so you replace the bearing surface and boot without buying a new arm.
EZ Lube Bushings With 8 Grease Ports
JBA's proprietary EZ Lube Bushings feature 8 individual grease ports and pressure relief valves machined into the bushing housing. You grease each pivot point independently, forcing fresh lubricant through the bearing surface and purging contaminants out the relief valve. This extends bushing life in mud, water crossings, and desert dust. Factory sealed bushings trap abrasive particles and fail without warning. EZ Lube Bushings give you a 5,000-mile maintenance interval you can perform with a standard grease gun.
Engineered for Lifted 5th Gen 4Runner Trucks
The 2016 4Runner uses the same front suspension geometry as all 5th gen models from 2010 to present model years. When you install a 2- to 3-inch lift, the factory upper arms pull the top of the wheel inboard, creating negative camber you can't fully correct with alignment adjustments. JBA upper control arms restore proper camber and caster angles, centering the tire contact patch and eliminating the inside edge wear common on lifted 5th gen 4Runner trucks. The arms are designed to work with aftermarket coilovers, spacer lift kits, and rear suspension upgrades.
Tubular Arms With Lifetime Structural Warranty
JBA's upper control arms use tubular construction with CNC-machined mounting plates and a welded 4140 chromoly steel ball joint housing. The arms are lighter than forged aluminum alternatives and stronger than stamped steel factory components. Every pair ships with a lifetime structural warranty covering the arm tube, welds, and mounting hardware against failure. Ball joints and bushings are wear items you maintain and rebuild as needed, but the arm structure is warranted for life.
Installation and Compatibility
These upper control arms bolt directly to the 2016 Toyota 4Runner frame and knuckle using factory mounting points. No drilling or frame modification required. Installation takes 2 to 3 hours with hand tools and a floor jack. You'll need a front-end alignment after installation to set camber, caster, and toe to spec. The arms are compatible with all 2016 4Runner trim levels including SR5, Trail, TRD Pro, and Limited series, and share the same design as the 2023 Toyota 4Runner upper control arm. They work with both 2WD and 4WD drivetrains.
Maintenance Schedule for Off-Road Use
Grease the EZ Lube Bushings every 5,000 miles or after water crossings and mud runs. Inspect ball joint boots for tears every 10,000 miles. If you're running expedition rigs or fleet trucks in remote environments, carry a ball joint rebuild kit and a grease gun. The entire upper control arm assembly can be serviced on the trail with basic hand tools. This serviceability is why jungle fleet operators and long-range expedition leaders spec JBA arms over sealed aftermarket upper control arms.
JBA Offroad Engineering Since 2003
JBA built the original aftermarket upper control arm for the Jeep Liberty in 2003 and has refined that core design through four generations. The Gen 4.5 upper arms for the 2016 4Runner represent 20 years of engineering iteration, field testing, and customer feedback. These aren't generic truck accessories rebranded for the 4Runner platform. They're purpose-built suspension components designed for the 5th gen front suspension geometry and proven in desert rock crawls, jungle trails, and overland expeditions across six continents.
